NZ Autumn / Fall - 5 days - Enquire now for April 2020

Five places only per tour

A small number of places across the planet are famous for their autumn or fall colour. The inland parts of the southern South Island is one of those places, and is a photographers dream in late April. Not only are the colours stunning, but fine calm days are more common at this time of year.

Join us for our small group (5 maximum) five day tours of Mackenzie Country and Central Otago. David has travelled in this area his whole life, and knows all the best places for autumn colour. Our small group means that at each location you'll get individual tuition on how to take the best images.

Leaving Dunedin, our tour will stop at the famous Moreaki Boulders, and the historic town of Oamaru, before heading the the Waitaki Valley to the Mackenzie Country. We will take in Aoraki / Mt Cook - New Zealand's tallest mountain, and the autumn colour around the many lakes of the Mackenzie Country and Waitaki Valley. Here the higher altitude means cold nights, that results in more vibrant autumn colour.  If we are lucky, the backdrop to the riot of colour will be mountains topped with fresh snow.

In Central Otago we'll visit famous autumn destinations of Arrowtown and Wanaka, as well as Queenstown and the golden vineyards of Bannockburn. We'll return to Dunedin through the largely underated Maniototo Region, which is full of photographic opportunities.

Cost   5 day / 4 night tour. NZ$2950 including GST twin share, NZ $250 single supplement.

Southern Africa - 5 weeks - 2019/2020

FULLY BOOKED - email for upcoming trips

Join us for a 5 week self drive photo tour from Victoria Falls to Cape Town and Kruger National Park. We will be self driving in fully equiped Toyota Hilux 4x4s with roof tents, staying mainly in camp grounds, with some accommodation in permanent tented camps, and luxury apartments in Cape Town.

Our photo tour starts at one of the 7 natural wonders of the world - Victoria Falls. Here the mighty Zambezi River plunges over 100m in a spectacular series of falls over 1.6km wide. There will be an oportunity to photograph the falls from above in a helicopter. David has conducted hundreds of aerial photoshoots, and has published several books of aerial photographs, so can provide participants with the tips and techniques needed to get the best aerial images possible.

From Victoria Falls we embark on a safari through some of the best game parks in Zimbabwe and Botswana. At Hwange and Chobe National parks, and Moremi Wildlife Reserve, we will be staying at campsites inside the parks - some fenced, and some unfenced meaning it's possible wildlife will roam straight through our camp. At Okavango Delta we will get poled in canoes through a myriad of streams that spread out to make up this massive 2 million hectare, 400km long inland delta.

Leaving Botswana we hope to so a walk to learn some of the bushcraft developed by San Bushmen from living in the Kalihari Desert for tens of thousands of years. Entering Namibia we head for the Skeleton Coast, where massive desert dunes plunge straight into the Atlantic Ocean. Heading inland we get a chance to climb some massive dunes in Namib-Naukluft National Park, and if we're lucky get a chance to photograph gemsbok with a background of mountains of sand. There's also an opportunity here to take a hot air balloon flight over the desert.

In the southern Namib Desert we'll see some highlights unique to Namibia - a desert castle, wild desert horses, a ghost town built in an area once so rich in diamonds, they were picked up of the desert floor as they glistened in the moonlight, and a remote German fishing village.

We cross into South Africa at Kgaligadi Transfrontier Park - a huge desert park around the size of Switzerland, famous for it's predators. From here we drive to Cape Town and swap out 4x4s and roof tents for luxury apartments. Highlights here include a cable car ride to the top of Table Mountain, and a trip out to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned.

We fly out of Cape Town and our last few days are spent in the huge Kruger National Park. The park is suituated in the east of South Africa, and forms over 350km of border with Mozambique. Here there are great opertunities for photographing wildlife, and we will again have the freedom of driving our own vehicles, meaning we can stay as long as we want at each animal sighting.

In five weeks we will have photographed some of the best icons of Southern Africa, in what can truely be described as a photographers "bucket list" trip of a lifetime.
