Africa 2023 tour and covid update.
Due to the covid-19 virus, all tours were put on hold but we are now opening up again for local one day Dunedin tours, and multi-day personalised tours in the South Island. If there any tours you are interested in, please contact us.
Just before covid, we were lucky enough to complete a five week safari in self drive 4x4s through South Africa, Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe with a private extended family group of 15 people.
We are looking to do a similar trip in 2023. It will be full of amazing photo oportunities for those keen on photography, but suitable for "non-photographers" as well.
NZ Geographic Resene Colour Award 2019
For the second year running, one of David's colourful aerial images was chosen from 3000 images to win the Resene Colour Award at the NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year Competition, 2019. Waiotapu Thermal Reserve is a no-drone area, so this image was shot from a helicopter with the door removed, zooming in with a Canon 100-400mm lens, and with the camera bolted to a gyroscopic stabilizer. The helicopter had to circle in tight orbits, to enable David to shoot straight down, which itself added difficulties. Several kilograms of gyroscope, camera and lens, became even heavier with the extra g-forces.
Resene NZ Colour Award
The results of 3000 entries into the NZ Geographic Photographer of the Year competition were announced recently at an awards ceremony in Auckland. David's drone aerial of tulip fields in Southland won the Resene Colour Award, and was runner up in the aerial category. The image has been used widely to promote the competition, and on New Zealand Geographic's 2019 calendar cover.
