Few places in the world have the scenic diversity in such a small area as the southern South Island. Our five day four night photo tour will take in rugged and remote coastlines, alpine lakes and mountains, dry wide open plains and valleys, lush waterfalls, colourful wildflowers, and historic relics of the gold rush.

Starting and finishing in Dunedin, we’ll commence our tour driving south to the Catlins to photograph waterfalls and rugged coastline including Nugget Point lighthouse. We’ll also search for Sea Lions and NZ Fur Seals.  Our accommodation for the night is overlooking the sea near Nugget Point, ideal for an early start to get sunrise over the Nuggets.

In Central Otago we’ll take in the wide open spaces and ranges of Maniototo, and photograph historic buildings left over from the 1800s gold rush. We’ll cross the scenic Lindis Pass with its steep tussock covered hills, and valleys with colourful wild lupins in hues of purple and pink.

Entering the Mackenzie Country, our tour takes in the unusual formations of the Clay Cliffs, and some of the regions many lakes and mountain ranges including New Zealand’s tallest – Aoraki Mt Cook. We’ll go to Tekapo for more wild lupins and the famous Church of the Good Shepherd, and as we are in the International Dark Sky reserve, we’ll try some astrophotography. Our accommodation for two nights overlooks Lake Pukaki.

One our final day we’ll travel back down the Waitaki Valley past a string of lakes, and take in one or two of Dunedins highlights to finish our trip, including penguins on Otago Peninsula.
